Blogging Tips: Creating a Blog Button

In case you're wondering what that is, it's on the right side bar under "Grab My Button". Someone asked me to explain how to make one and I'm not sure I can. If you don't know how to design a small blog button, I may not be able to help you with that.

Ways to make your button:
If you are adept at using programs such as Photoshop, Flash or some other drawing or photo manipulation software, you wont have a problem. However if not, what can you do to make a button?
1) Draw a picture, scan it and upload it. (If you didn't understand that.... oh boy. Why not make cookies instead?)
2) Use the snipping tool and take part of your blog header.
3) If you have a better idea, let me know.

Now putting your blog button up for people to take:
1) Go to your 'dashboard'
2) Click 'Design' under your blog
3) Under the 'Page Elements' tab, click add gadget where you want a gadget
4) Select the add HTML

5) Copy and paste the text below into an HTML (make sure you add the appropriate addresses)

<div align="center">
<a href="YOUR BLOG ADDRESS HERE" target="_blank"><img src="YOUR PHOTO SOURCE HERE" /></a>
</div>

<div align="center">
<form><textarea rows="6" cols="19" readonly="readonly"><center><a href="YOUR BLOG ADDRESS HERE" target="_blank"><img src="YOUR PHOTO SOURCE HERE" /></a></center></textarea></form>
</div>

Here are some problems you might run into:
1) If the code doesn't work (or when you click on your photo, your blog does not appear), check the quote marks... Sometimes the quote marks need to be retyped in the code section.
2) Make sure you have the photo sources and the blog source correctly written between the quote marks.

  2. I'm like Margot, I'm always learning something new when I stop by here. Now share what program or gadget you use to display the buttons of other blogs below (the one that scrolls)?

  10. Haha, I think I may have to make cookies instead. Not really because I didn't understand the above excellent tutorial (though I'm no friend of Photoshop), but because I don't exactly get the point of having a blog button. I mean, they do look really neat and spiffy in your side bar there, but I rarely ever click one. Hm... I will have to ponder this (and now I crave cookies...)

  11. What great information. I'll have to incorporate this into my blog. You might have noticed, I'm kind of "blogging knowledge" challenged. You are such a great source in helping me overcome.

  16. Do you know what I've realized from all your comments? I'm going to have to collect a bunch of blog buttons to add to my blog roll. Oh well, I love blog buttons...so. Can't wait to see all of yours.

    Cruella, if you make cookies, can I have some? And what's the point of blog buttons? I have no idea... I guess we do it because everyone's doing it. Isn't that why we do everything? Oh wait... ;)

    Have a great week, guys!
