My Top Ten TV Shows

Note: I usually reserve Mondays for my Chapter Critique but because today is Alex's blogfest, I'm postponing it until tomorrow.
Alex Cavanaugh is hosting a TV BLOGFEST and we're suppose to pick our top ten TV shows. It was hard but I think I narrowed it down. I love a variety of shows so I thought I would choose my favorites from each group.

1) Comedy - THE OFFICE US  - This one was difficult because there are so many funny shows out there: Faulty Towers, The Office - UK and US, The IT Crowd, Corner Gas (Canadian Show), Chuck. But ultimately, with Micheal's craziness and Jim and Pam...I had to go with The Office US.
The Office and Silent Witness UK
2) Mystery - SILENT WITNESS - I would have to say, of all categories, this one is the one I watch 90% of the time so narrowing it down was also difficult. Cracker, Wire in the Blood, Prime Suspect, Blue Murder. Silent Witness is gritty, disturbing, full of dead bodies and blood. A crime writer's dream.
3) Reality - THE AMAZING RACE - What's not to like. People get smacked in the head with watermelons, travel the world, eat bugs...
4) Crime - NCIS - Cold Case, Law & Order UK, Law & Order US (All Series), Bones. I write mysteries but I'm a real fan of love and I happen to love TIVA!
5) Other - TOP GEAR - I didn't know what category to place this one so I put it in others but I have seen every episode of every *New* series (Fifteen or so seasons (series)). My favorite? South America Special! Can you say Viagra at 17,000 feet?
6) Sci-fi -  STARGATE SG1 - Stargate (ALL SERIES), Quantum Leap, Battlestar Galactica. Yes, I'm also a sci-fi fan. I own all seasons of Stargate SG1 and watch them repeatedly. What do you notice about the pics below. I was seriously a sad teenager - I wanted a Jeep, had a Swiss Army knife and used duct tape on everything! "I'm stuck on a glacier with MacGyver!"
7) Teenage Love - MACGYVER - Quantum Leap is a close second with 21 Jump Street trailing close behind. You should read my fan fiction... actually, if you did, it would be classified under comedy.
8) Action - SPOOKS UK - Alias. Yes, the show is still a favorite of mine.
9) Old - I DREAM OF JEANNIE -This too. I still watch the five seasons over and over.
10) New - CASTLE - I don't know why I'm drawn to this one. Perhaps it's because he does what I wish I was doing... who knows. Well, and the chemistry in this TV show is pretty amazing.

  1. Stargate! Good for you! And I forgot about The Office. Top Gear is a great show, too. So many cool cars I will never own...

  2. Great list! I have a soft spot for MacGyver too, and I may have to give Castle another chance (I've only ever seen the very first episode)

  3. Nice presentation, but I haven't seen hardly any of these, which doesn't mean much. At least you got the great "I Dream of Jeannie" and mentioned one of my favorite sci-fi's "Quantum Leap"--Such a great show.

  12. Hm. I don´t even know how many of these we can watch in Denmark as I don´t watch many series. I sometimes enjoy NCIS together with my daughters, but my current favourite series is the very British "Midsomer Murders" with Inspector Barnaby. I probably also owe much of the inspiration for my cosy manuscript to Barnaby and all the quirky villagers of Midsomer.

  14. I'm starting to feel guilty for not including Stargate but I won't give in to it. There were too many favorites from over the years that battled it out. Nice mix on your list, Clarissa!

  19. Of course I know The Office and Top Gear being British, we do get some US programmes and I watch many of them, I wrote mine in a wee bit of a hurry as I had to be out by 8am British time and didn't get home until 6pm so did mine last night,I like Law and Order Columbo, I can think of more now than when I submitted mine,

  26. I will tell you the secret of Castle. It's Nathan Fillion's butt. Oh, sure, you have to watch FIREFLY to actually SEE said butt, but it carries Castle anyway. I actually love the underlying humor and chemistry in it, and am always a fan of crime solving--and yes, I love that the WRITER is so integral to the show. fun list!

  27. I'm starting to think I missed out on something when I never really watched Stargate on a regular basis.
    great choices!

  28. I keep trying to remember to watch "Castle!" Now I've gone ahead and set a timer for the show...thanks. :) I'm also trying to watch "Mad Men" because I hear it's another good show for writers.

  29. I'm not much of a TV person so I'm not familiar with any of these except I Dream of Jeannie, which probably really dates me. LOL!

  30. Castle is so much fun, isn't it??

Heck, I'll take any excuse to get Captain Tightpants back on my screen, but I am glad that he's finally in another show that's actually good.

  37. I completely forgot about Quantum Leap! I haven't seen it in so long. I loved that show.

NCIS has grown on me. When it first started, I couldn't watch it because it was sooooo inaccurate (I'm US Navy), but they must have hired a consultant or something because when I started watching it recently, I found I couldn't stop watching it.

  38. The Office - yes! And I agree about Castle - the chemistry is fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes, Macguyver and 21 Jump Street! Johnny Depp as a cop! And I thought Richard Dean Ansdersen was the hottest man on the planet!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh yes, I Dream of Jeannie! I watched that for years and had forgotten it. Thanks for the reminder!

  41. I like the route you took on this blogfest...It's hard to choose favorite shows, but putting them in categories makes a difference...

I adore the Amazing Race too....

  42. You've got a good mix in your list! I've also got Amazing Race and NCIS... but you mentioned Quantum Leap and I watched that religiously! It also made me think of one from high school (well, for me). I loved Scarecrow and Mrs. King. Thanks for reminding me about that one... without even trying ;)

  43. Can't believe I forgot about MacGyver - he was so cute and so handy.

  45. The only one I recognise is- I dream of Jeannie, I loved the theme music! It was always on in the afternoon when I was a child, that and the Munsters, Als Diner and "Car 54 where are you?". Nice memories! Maybe telly isnt so bad after all!
Do you take requests for your forensic posts? I would love to know what shape a body exhumed after almost twenty years could be in? For my novel, I've been avoiding the scene!

  52. The Office - love it!! Both US and UK.
Don't get much time to see TV, but make a habit of seeing The Big Bang Theory - hilarious - and I'll mention a detective series I've seen a few times, though not as often as I'd like to - The Closer.
I'll keep an eye open for your tips in the other categories ...
