My Big Announcement!

First of all, don't forget to stop by L'Aussie's site today. I'm guest blogging. There's a picture of me (a real picture of me) that I've put up.

Now the announcement!

I love blogfests. I do.

HOWEVER, I can't always participate because they are, in one word: time-consuming. Okay, well that's two words but I added a hyphen: time-consuming!

  1. You have to sign up and read the rules.
  2. You have to prepare the post.
  3. And here's the most time-consuming part - on the day of the festival, you have to visit each and every blog and comment on their entry. Well, you do if you want to increase your follower count. As a writer, I just don't have the time.
How do you know you want to follow the blogs you're following? If you have a blogfest list of 75+ entries, do you have time to visit all 75 sites? How do you choose?

What if you're a mystery genre reader, do you really want to follow a blog that posts only romance novels reviews?

What if you're a fantasy writer seeking other fantasy writer blogs?
Well, I want to do a blogfest. But I also want it to be easy and productive. So, it's blogfest matchmaker game! Kinda like Talli's Hating Game but in a good way! (BTW, if you haven't bought this book yet, get it!)

It's in the works, people - February 2011. AND IT WILL BE EASY-ISH!

Details coming soon to a blog near you.

  2. Curious about the Blogfest.
On my way to see the "real you."
Those stairs are great. Are they yours?

  3. Saw your pic yesterday :)
I don't visit all my followers, just the ones in my official blogroll and those who leave comments at my site, and the new ones whom I support. There definitely isn't enough time to visit just about everybody, but the loved ones yes :)

  4. I love blogfests, but like you, I cannot always participate because I'm working. You should have a theme-oriented blogfest. Announce that it will be for mystery writers and editors only, or something like that. I used to visit more bloggers but my life is upside down right now so I only visit those who comment on my blog. I wish I had more time :(

  5. Oooh, I like it! But I also like Blogs outside of my genre. As a Fantasy writer, I need to know a bit of romance (very foreign to me), mystery, and ANY good writing tips to learn and grow. And, boy howdy, I've got a lot to learn!

  20. I was just thinking that someone needed to do a just follow if you want blogfest in February, to brighten up the winter doldrums. So yeah! I'm there with you on this one! I feel the same as you do about blogfests in general. Keep 'em simple!

  21. I think this sounds like a great idea. I'm looking forward to taking part in your Blogfest.

  22. Yay, an easy blogfest! My favourite kind!

  23. Now that soounds cool!
That's why I do the easy blogfests, like favorite music and movies. Doesn't take as long to read.

  24. blogfests are definitely time-consuming but they are often rewarding. As with anything you only get back what you put in. (more or less) ;)
LOVED your interview with L'Aussie :)

  26. Wow! loved the wonderful photo of you, but I had imagined a "Clarissa" as someone with red-brown long hair cascading to below her shoulders, cheerleader smile, etc. Very interesting!

Your new blogfest idea sounds intriguing, and I'll be curious to see what you come up with!

  27. I'm right there with you. You blogfest sounds great.

  28. It's great to put a face to the name and you're nothing like I imagined. You're a lot younger than I imagined. Anyway, going back over to read the blog.

BTW - I had no idea that participants had to actually read all the entries. That's a whole lotta reading. I found the one yesterday very, very interesting and read some of the posts on how people structure their stories. Really a case of different strokes for different folks. If your blogfest is gonna be kinda easy, I might get my feet wet. Somehow, I've never done one before.

  29. Loved your guest post. And your picture! Yay, a face now to put with the name!

I agree with all your advice, especially number 2. ;)

  30. Your post was really good. I love blogfests and this one should be interesting. I've to get Talli's book too..

  31. I adore blogfests but if 80 people sign up and you have to read ..stories of 500+ words each, there's no time to do anything else. But writing for blogfests has broadened me as a writer as I drew on creativity I never dreamed possible to meet the criteria.

Alex J Cavanaugh has good blogfest ideas with his lists. But not always easy to think of things to put in your list!

I must say, Ms Clarissa, you're a hit over at L'Aussie, and folks are loving your photo. Now you've started something. They'll want more of you and now you're giving us your take on a blogfest. What a mystery. I can't wait.

Reading those who've been over to read your post. Must say I'm disappointed they didn't leave a comment there!

  32. WoW!! visited the site and saw your picture!! beautiful!!!

  33. Thank you everyone! When you do a blogfest you don't have to visit every blog but a lot of people do blogfests because they want more followers and to do that you have to go to their blog.

  34. True, Clarissa,

But they are so fun! Now many of the blogfests are super easy. One line or two. So preparing is quick, and its so easy to hop around.

Also, I've been in many blogfests and only THE most popular sites get 75 or more participants. Most of the ones I've been in are between 25-50 a more manageable amount. And they're usually over a few days.

I can't wait to see what you have planned.
