B is for Blogfest: Memory Lane

Vicki at Rambles & Randomness is taking us back--along Memory Lane.
  • When did you start your blog?
I had to go back and look at my records. But guess what, it's been almost a year. I started April 17, 2010!
  • What is first denomination (price) of postage stamp you remember?
What's a postage stamp? Do you know how long it's been since I've sent something by post? I'll go with $.25 cents but honestly, I have no idea.
  • How old were you  when you learned to ride a bike?
    I still can't ride a bike!
  • What was the first concert you attended without parental supervision?
Barenaked Ladies in Calgary! Woot, Woot!
  • How old were you when you got your first kiss?
Twelve-ish. I do remember a time in grade eight or nine when one of my friends (a really nice guy) asked me to date him. I think he asked me out on a daily basis but I always said no. One day--and I can't really remember the reason why--I finally said yes. I remember hiding the rest of the day because it was the worst mistake of my life. I didn't like him that way! Anyway, he finally found me hiding between shelves in the school library and asked me what was wrong. What was I to do? I just gave him a kiss and broke his heart. *sigh* He was the beginning of a long list of men whose hearts I've crushed.
  • What is your earliest memory?
I don't remember much before I was twelve (if anything--I'm not sure they're real memories or not) but what I do remember (or think I remember) I don't discuss. Let's just say the kissing thing. Happy thoughts!

  1. No memories before age 12? I don't think I believe that! But I guess you can just make stuff up. Tell people you were a child actress or something, lol!

I think 32¢ is the earliest stamp price I remember. But I send snail mail all the time. I like sending birthday and anniversary cards in the mail. And a friend and I from college write each other letters. There's something really special and exciting about getting snail mail!

This was a fun post! Happy Blogiversary!!!

  2. Better to be the crush-er than the crush-ee when it comes to hearts being crushed! I've never been a femme fatale... except in my imagination. *sigh*

  7. Fascinating that you don't remember anything from early childhood. I think that would make an interesting premise for a psychological story--maybe a thriller!

  9. Clarissa - Thanks for sharing. Good for you not to string that poor boy along for too long of a time. That must have been hard for you...

  10. Oh I can remember the money before decimalisation.
Pounds, shillings and pence. I love the thrupence because of its shape, and ten shillings was a fortune(50p)

  11. I find that interesting too. Fuzzy memories before twelve. Hmmm.

I can remember as far back as two. I was five when I rode my first bike. My first concert was Men At Work in NYC. My first kiss. I was twelve, she was thirteen- Alison Satori-a great little kisser.

    Have a great weekend, Clarissa.

  12. Good questions, I remember some things from my childhood but some of it is all mixed up. I remember a car accident I was in when I was 2 years old. I don't remember the stamps. Thanks for sharing with us. Have a good weekend. =)

  16. Well this was a fun read. I know now how old I am. I think the first stamp I can remember was about 4 cents. I remember I could get in the movies for 35 cents, adults 65 cents. Gee!

I enjoyed this and am now a follower.

  20. Can´t ride a bike? Really? I don´t think I know anyone in Denmark who can´t :)

I am not sure I could crush hearts, but I can ride a bike, and I do remember a few things from when I was 3-4 years old.

    Happy Blogfest!

  22. Great post - I love remembering; it is handy that I do it well. ;)
I remember my first (the start) and second day (the end) of school clear as if it was yesterday. I remember things from before that too. I have lots of little moving images I can replay at will.

  25. Great B post - I saw someone else with those questions on their blog. Hmmm.

I think 29 cents is the earliest I remember, but I have trouble remembering a lot that happened before I was twelve too. Oh well. :)

  27. My memories go back to age five. Vivid: the summer I was five, standing in my backyard, listening to my parents argue and watching my little sister in the sandbox between two lilac bushes.

5 cent stamps. Two party phone lines. 5 cents for an ice cream cone. Penny candy, sometimes it was two for a penny. Radio Shows, before I was 12 and we got a black and white TV. So this dates me!

I remember time was slower, life less stressful and violent, and the fun I had summers playing with friends: hopscotch, jacks, kick the ball, marbles, Yo-Yos.

And I remember my first kiss: how I "forced" two neighbor boys, when I was 12, to kiss me. Not much to it, really!

  29. Need to teach you how to ride a bike young lady! And I think Rush was my first concert. Back in 1982. Whoa...

  30. I guess I was six or seven when I learned how to ride a bike. I love it! You should totes learn.

  31. Phew. I'm feeling my age now. lol..My first concert "Black Sabbath" scary how long ago that was.

My most recent concert "Pink" don't ask! I have eclectic taste and then some.

I enjoyed your post and am now following as fast as my poor old legs will allow.

  32. No memories before 12. Huh. I have a pretty distinct memory and my mom says I would have been around four when it happened.

  33. My shrink wanted to put me under hypnosis to bring out some memories but I said no. If I can't remember maybe there's a reason for that. Either it's too painful or it's not worth remembering. Either way, I think I'll pass.

  34. Love the Canadian postage stamp picture! :)

    Happy B-day. :)

  35. I love these questions and answers, but I had to laugh at the one about attending the first concert attended parental supervision...I was over forty and taking my own pre-teen boys to their first concert. It was (count the years) a young Peter Frampton at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. Such fun!

  36. Hi Clarissa. I thought about doing this blogfest but decided there was too much thinking involved. The first answer was okay, blogger keeps records. As for the rest...I enjoyed reading your answers.

  39. I think my first stamp I remember was 25 cents. Barenaked Ladies is a great group. My first unsupervised concert was Def Leppard. I went with a bunch high school friends in two cars out to the old Rosemont Horizon arena. What fun. :)

  42. Learning to ride a bike was terrifying for me. That whole "I'll hold while you pedal" thing my mom said when I was learning freaked me out!

  43. Don't worry, it took me ages to learn to ride a bike. If I didn't have a brother, I probably still wouldn't know how to ride one.
