JACK THE RIPPER
This serial killer is considered one of the first and what makes him even more spectacular is that he was never caught.
He killed in the Whitechapel district of London in the year 1888.
There are now over one hundred theories about the Ripper's identity, and the murders have inspired multiple works of fiction. Below is a documentary (one of many) on this killer. You don't have to watch it, but answer me this: Which serial killer intrigues you the most? Real or fiction.

I was waiting for you to reveal the true name of the Ripper.
ReplyDeleteDon't really have a favourite. it's got to the point where they all seem to merge into one. I think Dexter was an original way to take it. Before that probably Hanibal Lecter was the most well performed.
Real serial killers are just too scary.
ah, poor Jack The Ripper he doesn't even know what awaits him in Hollywood, you remember that I recently posted a news about some British film in which Jack will fight against Frankenstein or Dracula in London, I don't remember which exactly :)
ReplyDeleteWell, he wasn't called a serial killer, but I immediately thought of Master Dimitri from "The Bastard Prince", by Katherine Kurtz, who killed off a lot of the bad guys before he got caught.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in the challenge!
My husband and I were in London for our one year dating anniversary. To celebrate we went on a Jack the Ripper walking tour which took in all the spots where the murders took place and talked about some of the theories. Then we went for pizza...
ReplyDeleteIt looks kind of weird when you see it written down like that.
Clarissa - What an interesting choice for "J!" The Whitechapel murders still intrigue people so much today, and that in itself is fascinating, at least to me. That over 100 years later, we are still talking about those murders is just so interesting!
ReplyDeleteThe most intriguing serial killer to me? Hmmm....hard to say. Jack the Ripper is definitely one. So is the Zodiac killer.
Jack the ripper theories are so fasinating! Good choice fit j. I don't know if I have any favorites but it's interesting stuff in fiction.

ReplyDeleteI'm actually really freaked out by serial killers but have a couple of really bad guys who have been fascinating (in a creepy way) to write. I'm looking forward to watching the documentary!
ReplyDeleteHannibal Lecter!!!
ReplyDeleteTake care

Hmmm...I think Jack the Ripper is intriguing because in spite of all the information, his identity will never be more than speculation. For fiction...I like the clever ones with their clues and complicated set-ups, like the killer in Jeffrey Deaver's "The Bone Collector."
ReplyDeleteI would have to say a real serial killer. I have always been intrigued by forensic science and finding the answers to the crime. =)
ReplyDeletePoetry, Quotes and Book Reviews.
I don't think I have a favourite - the whole notion is so wildly disgusting...
ReplyDeleteI don't like reading about real killers at all...
I like unreal ones much better. weird I know for someone who has a murder mystery business and writes murder mysteries but there you have it.
Jan Morrison
Jack is the most intriguing precisely because they never caught him.
ReplyDeleteJack the Ripper so totes freaks me out! Though he isn't the only one. Can you say Zodiac Killer? I sure can.
ReplyDeleteHe's the one my daughter and I watched a lot about a while back when we still had DirecTV. And I have a dim memory of seeing a movie based on him sometime way back in the 70s. I would say he's one out of two of the most intriguing serial killers to me. Ted Bundy is the second one. He committed murders in Utah not far from where I was living with my first husband in 1974. On TV and in the newspaper we heard about the crimes. Chilling stuff!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Mood, they all blend together. I like a good murder/mayhem story, and I like the villian to be as evil and the detective is good.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't dwell on them.
Still, Jack did have an awesome spree.
......dhole
Serial killers all fascinate me with their reasoning.
ReplyDeleteRipper is so intriguing because after all this time, with all our advances we don't know who so why can only be conjecture.
I think I have seen Bundy on too many news shows....but I keep watching. His path is fascinating, especially when he tried to stop.
ReplyDeleteJack the Ripper is super scary. Like the Boston Strangler, yes? Hubs loves researching serial killers, but I have to confess. I stay far away... :D <3
ReplyDeleteI have always been super intrigued by Jack the Ripper, probably BECAUSE he was never caught. It's gotten so much coverage and you can actually see pictures of the crimes... really scary.
ReplyDeleteThe "real" seriel killers intrigue me the most because the things they did, actually happened. A person who has as much feeling as a fish can do a lot of damage and is quite scary.
