W is for What is America coming to?

I was watching the news this morning (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) and I learned that FINALLY Obama showed the U.S. people his "long" birth certificate.  Thank goodness for the guy with the weird combover!

WHAT!?

I admit that I live in Mexico and it's often difficult to keep up with current events (mostly because real new is in Spanish) but seriously!? As far as I know, the US is in deep financial poop and only digging itself deeper, they are dealing with major natural disasters, Charlie Sheen has gone mad and is spreading across America, and lastly, people, we have a royal wedding coming up!

Don't politicians have better things to do? For instance, shouldn't they be: solving the oil crisis? finding a cure for cancer? building a fallout shelter for the impending change in Mayan calendar?

Someone tell me the truth: Have we all gone crazy and I just missed the bulletin?

  1. Agreed. Wholeheartedly.

It's ridiculous that we are so preoccupied with the WRONG things in this country.

  2. The Donald is in disgrace. I think he's been there before but for different reasons. I never questioned Obama's birth. His mom was American after all. Beyond all the hype, that's what freedom of speech gets you, is a country that is too big for its britches.

If you have time stop by my blog. I have an announcement.

  3. I recently read an article that described the US as a "mendocracy"--a system entirely focused on lies.

The most powerful TV news network (not owned by any Americans, by the way) owns one of our political parties. It is dedicated to churning out so many lies that the people don't notice what's really going on: A tiny group of international billionaires have stolen 99% of US wealth. And they want MORE. They want to make the US into one giant Somalia.

We'll all have to resort to piracy soon. Arrrrhh mateys!

  4. What, Anne! You don't trust Fox news? ;)

  5. Yes. And that's the long answer. That's why I don't listen to the news very often. And read the papers?! Ha! We have an election going on here and everyday is more of the same. What can be fixed? Only the attitudes and it may be too late for that.
    arrrgh.

  6. Sorry you were not added to the memo list here is what you missed.

"We are planning to elect bad comb-over guys, abuse the elderly, under educate our children, and eventually we will legalize marijuana but only so we can raise the price of munchies."

Are you in? The Mayan party is going to be a blast. (LOL, I could not resist)

  8. Clarissa - YES!!!!! There are so many more important things to focus our attention on! Thank you for the reminder that we really need to think long and hard about where we focus our energy.

  10. I laughed out loud (the non-abbreviated kind) when I saw him on TV, claiming he was proud to have been a part of something so "important". Yes. Very important. Obama made a fool of you, Mr. Trump. Or rather, he confirmed what we already knew. Very important...

  11. Just so you know, everyone has gone crazy. It is like everyone focuses on ridiculous things so they don't have to face truth. I will admit that I use that technique sometimes, but I am not a country...and I eventually face the music.

  12. The guy w/ the weird combover=Donald Trump! Yeah, he was going on & on about that birth certificate issue. You know he wants to be President in 2012?

  13. I am so beyond angry at this whole issue. I'm too aghast and horrified too at such casual and politicised racism.

    Take care

  14. Yeah, we've all gone crazy. *hands over the bulletin.* I didn't know Charlie Sheen was responsible for the epidemic though! :p

  15. Well, Charlie Sheen went crazy... Maybe he's on to something.

  16. ah, he's horrible and immoral just like any other politician :(

  17. We've all gone crazy--across the entire world. Soon it will be raining cats and dogs. Hope you have a strong umbrella.

  18. I adore Jon Stewart's humour most of the time. Hilarious. I don't want to get into the 'What the hell is wrong with America?' debate but I think it's so telling when a country will spend absolutely BILLIONS on a ridiculous election campaign between billionaires who are ruled from behind by other billionaires. Meanwhile the debt is 14 trillion and unemployment is high and many people are so desperate. The money thrown away on bribes and ticker tape could surely go a long way to fixing some of the country's woes. Oh, America!

PS They say Obama is admired everywhere except in America. Go figure...I can't believe anyone would be trotting out questions about his birth now. How pathetic.

  19. Hehehe, Jon Stewart is awesome. I used to watch the Daily Show here, not sure what channel it'd be on anymore if it's still on. I haven't watched TV in so long.

Anyway, I totally agree with you - the world has gone mad!

  20. What bothers me most is that people fall for this crap. I don't understand why they can't see they're being manipulated.

  21. I'm hoping this is going to turn into some elaborate "I'm showing you what an idiot some people can be" type of thing...

    because this is all idiocy~

  22. We're definitely on the same blank stare boat. Can we, as enlightened Americans, think of something more important than what the new queen in waiting will be wearing when she shops?

I want to know when I can replace my gas guzzler vehicle with something more eco-sensitive and still can program itself to go home after a night of drinking.

    .......dhole

  23. I agree with Anne Allen. That's why in my near-future sci-fi WIP Ameica has been broken up into several independent countries!

It is pathetic the blatant racism we still have to put up with from the party that somehow manages to dominate the airwaves. I wish the other party actually had a spine and stood up for what it believes in (if it even knows what it believes in anymore).

  24. We are in a sad state of affairs these days. I feel like in the past few years it has gotten worse. Fear does bring out the worse in people. It is a shame that certain ppl fuel that fear with hate.
P.S. I love your description of d.t. right on.

  25. It's just sad.
This is all Trump's plan to win voters when he runs for presidency. He's reaching for it, and I hate to see it, but the republican voters in the US will fall for it because they think he's a god. He's rich and republican. That's all that matters.

    Ok, sorry for the rant.

  26. People with agendas have agendas no matter what else is going on. And there are always a few (often too many) who'll be convinced by them.

  27. I am so with you. I get absolutely disgusted with the lower-intelligence end of the US Populace, fueled by combover reality TV millionnaires and talk radio hosts.

  28. Geez.
    Okay.
    Well.
I like your original post, Clarissa, but the comments are a bit 'out there'.
I follow ALL news organizations then make up my own mind.
I read widely, go to the original news bites to get the quote w/o consuming what the commentators want me to hear.

I gather, sort, then decide what is truth.

The vitriol that I see here (not your post though) is alarming. Actually, scares the crap out of me.
People need to stay informed, keep learning, and never accept a political opinion as truth.
