I'm Holding Auditions!

The W.A.V.E. is on its way! I've been working on the site and all its little details are coming together (I even have fabulous blogger buddies that have agreed to help!), but we won't be unveiling the site for about another month or so. In the meantime, I think it would be a good idea to have auditions and I hope you will take part. I really believe this site will be good for writers, especially self or independently published writers.

"What am I auditioning for?"
We are looking for voices of all kinds--different accents, male, female, readers for every type of book: sci-fi, YA, children's books... In order for writers to hear the voice of the reader, I'm putting samples out.

"I want to help but I'm so embarrassed about my voice!"
Well, you can sign up anonymously for the auditions (when it asks you to put your blog address in, put a blank page). When you send me your audition I will know who you are, but I'm not going to tell!

"If I sign up, will I have to commit to hours of reading on W.A.V.E?"
No. WAVE is volunteer. You can volunteer an hour a month or forty, it's up to you.

"What do you want from me?"
(1) Sign up below. You have until the end of October to sign up and submit (the sooner the better though). Once the website is up and running you can join as well but I want to have various examples to showcase.
(2) Using a microphone (either on your computer or external) record 20-30 seconds of reading from your favorite novel. It doesn't have to be perfect quality. As long as we can hear your voice.
(3) Email me the sound file (clarissadraper @ gmail.com). When you email me your voice file, just state the name of the book and the author. If you have wrote your name as anonymous, I will make sure it stays that way.

That's it.

When I receive your sound file, I will clean it up a bit and prepare it for my youtube account so that people can listen to it there.
Thank you for all your help with this. I hope it's a success and will help get books out there for a larger audience.

So good to hear W.A.V.E is up and running! And what a great idea for a way to collect a variety of different voice files!

I'll tell you what, Dez, when you sign up, link to your favorite swimsuit site!

Good luck to everyone going for this!!!! I know my limitations and one of them is my voice. It even bores me silly!!! So all you dulcet toned gorgeous voiced people - go, go, go! Take care

What a great idea! I'll have to think about this. I just think it's so cool. But I DO think I would be anonymous about it. :D

This is a marvelous idea! I also like that anonymous part & I think it might attract some of the shy types!

Excellent Idea Clarissa, and count me in.

I would love to contribute! I'm an actor, so auditions are my day job, so I'm basically in, right? ;-D I'll be sending along a submission soon.

You have a new title - record producer! Maybe mp3 producer?

I'm in; if I can figure out how to make a sound file. I acted for years - this is too fun to pass up. How many different accents do you want?

This is a good idea! My voice is so creaky and awful, though. I'll let the people with nicer vocal cords enter. :)

We need photos of Dez in a speedo. I mean he IS European.

Clarissa, this is SO exciting! What a fabulous idea! I will support you any way I can but will not audition because my voice sounds like a whiny mouse caught in a tin can. Call me if you get a story with a whiny mouse as a MC, maybe then someone can use my limited voice talents.

Yay! Thank, guys. I hope this works out--for all of us! And, Matt, I can totally see Dez in a speedo!

What a great idea! Can't wait to see it when it launches!

DEZMOND said...

you mean the two of you haven't seen my speedo pics at Facebook?
Ah, that's what you're missing for not spying on the spy :)

Hi, Clarissa,

This sounds AWESOME. I've been told I have a great reading voice, so I will give it a shot. I just need to figure out how.

Good luck. What an exciting new venture!

So, I heard Dez was going to be in a Speedo...

Just kidding. I'm here to support you, of course! Best of luck with the new project! :)

P.S. I tracked my friend Jeff down. (He works at a radio station.) He'll be auditioning for you soon! :)
