We have all recently seen the captcha debate. Should we? Shouldn't we?
Maria Zannini has posted an awesome video on her blog about the usefulness of Captchas. They actually help digitalize books and we should all love that! However, as a blogger, it DRIVES ME NUTS!
So, here is my idea: Why not make an app for it--The Captcha App! Make it a game. I'm sure there are people out there that would download an app that would just solve captchas and perhaps kill a green pig at the same time!
Come on, people! I'm just a writer but there has to be a techie out there that could think of an Angry Bird edition that combines the love of captcha solving with missile birds...
ANYONE!?

hahaha!!!! I hate those word verification things...oy!
I like the idea of making them into a game. Angry Birds is a great forum for that, LOL!
Brilliant idea! After all, there is an app for everything.
Can't they just make it easier to read? I know some site I use that instead of a Captcha asks you to do a simple math problem like 10 + 11 so all you have to answer is 21. Anyway it sucks how spammers and hackers make all this neat technology we have more difficult to use than it has to be.
Angry Captcha. I bet someone is working on that.
I have never used WV in six years of blogging and I get about two spams a year.
Please don't beat me but over the last three/four days I've grown quite fond of these captcha phrases - so far I've managed to read ALL of them - so I treat it like a game.. Old Kitty 286, Captcha, 0!
Yay!
Take care
x
That's a great idea, Clarissa!
Ha! I bet I'd be better at killing Captchas than I am those darn smirking pigs.
Hi Clarissa
Good idea. Long time no see. I've been ill, hope things are good with you.
Nancy
I hope you get credit when some young kid turns Captcha into an app.
PS Love the title to your post!
As I've been posting comments at different blogs, I've run into several captchas. I wasn't so irritated by them until they hopped on this double-word with blur thing. But I try to bear in mind they have a purpose.
Good idea!
I'm getting use to them. It definitely challenges my "mind".
Teresa
Ha. Great idea. Someone must be working on it. Love the blog post's title. :)
Captchas are unnecessary with the spam filters on. I don't understand why people even use them.
I hate that verification thing too. And when you get a problematic comment, it's easy to delete.
I've removed the need for Captcha words for my blog posters as they've become so unreadable - but now I get spam.
Surely the things don't need to be so hard to work out? I never got spam with the easier to read version.
Sounds like you're onto something.
Donna V.
Look at it this way: Captchas give you a second, third, even forth chance to change your mind about your comment before sending it out there for the world to see.
Ha! But not for I... I avoid games... To easily addicted.
Xxx
LOL at the post title.
And I agree. It would be awesome to have Angry Birds and CAPTCHA together.
Wow, Clarissa! Fantastic idea! I think you better get to a "techie" ASAP and get your copyright on that!!
You missed your calling...you should be in R & D! :)
Love the idea and a cute title.

Thoughts in Progress
I really hate the captchas too. I have a screenshot of a ridiculous one I had to enter to leave a comment on somebody's blog today, and I'm going to post about it sometime soon. :)
I just disable the captcha on my blog and read through each comment by hand to get rid of spammers.
Hi Clarissa .. your latest comment went into Spam?! Rescued!
Since I took off word verification I have a fair number of anonymous comments on a variety of posts - irritates me!
However I'd rather an App that could let me comment on embedded comment boxes!
I agree with Uncle Grumpy - who's opposite ... spammers and hackers are just irritating - but I won't pander to them ..
Read a book instead .. cheers Hilary
I positively despise Captcha. It's devil's spawn, it is!
hi miss clarissa! i hate hate hate those blurry two word ones specially when you get it wrong and gotta do it all over again. ack! for sure id like it to be a game but i could like for it to be one where you win points and could save them up and get a prize. i dont do wv on my blog and so far i only got one spam and i just zapped it off.
...hugs from lenny
Captcha - dratcha! I hate the darn things. They should be scratched out of existence. I haven't used them on my blog for ages and I have no trouble with spam... Thus far....??
Great idea! Almost makes me wish I was a techno wizard.
It's kinda like a game now...will I get it right on the 4th try.
And winner - it posted. ;)
LOL! That would be fun. ;)
*Die, captcha, die!*
That's an awesome idea!
I've never bothered with wv on my blog. I only get a few spam comments and so far, all but one has been picked up by the filter.
As a visually impaired person as well as a blogger, these capcha challenges are the invention of the devil! I'd love to invent one that asks the commenter a random general knowledge question they have to answer. Then again, I'm a quiz show addict so that's just me! Incidentally, Vlarissa, thanks for making this the first Blogger blog I've ever actually been able to comment on.
One of these days I'm going to have to play the Angry Birds. I'm probably the last man standing who hasn't.
First of all, best blog post title ever! Captchas annoy me, too, especially the Blogger ones because they're super long and really hard to read. Still, whenever I take the Captcha off my blog, I get so much spam it's impossible to wade through, and I know I've missed some real comments. It's an issue either way. I love your idea, though!

They are so exasperating. why would blogger do this. I hope one of those clever people out there sees your post and does something about it.
Amen. Captchas drive me BONKERS, but if I could shoot an arrow at a target or something...
I heard there are 500.000 apps in Apple store, so there's probably an app for this already, and probably an app for killing pigs too >:)
Cold As Heaven
I have to confess to being totally lost until I read some of the comments here. Then the penny dropped and I violently agreed with you. Those word verification things are the devil!
Jai
Sometimes I get funny Captchas. Mostly they annoy. :-)
Hahahaha! I love your solution!
Captcha Crapshoot. I hate captcha and I don't get how it helps digitalize books. I believe it sort of but it reminds me of having my kids bring in grocery receipts...don't get the connection.
all I know is that the double captcha's are hard for me to read sometimes and more often than not I decide not to comment after all. Also, I've never gotten a single piece of spam to my knowledge.
Yeah, those things don't help when multi tasking. =)
anything, ANYTHING would be better than what they've done with them now. They used to be mildly annoying, sometimes even funny. Now they're just downright unreadable!
I vote for angry birds~ :o)
They must have gotten death threats or something, because there was suddenly a massive improvement in being able to read them. Is the purpose really to keep out spam bots or was it to test our sanity and eyes at the same time? A sort of inkblot / vision test.
Those word verification things drive me nuts!
Nice post,I like the idea of making them into a game. Angry Birds is a great forum for that,Thanks sharing...
