First of all, I want to thank all of my fellow bloggers for all their help making this happen. What help? you may ask. Well, you've been my writing family, your blog posts and reassurances have been so encouraging. I have become a better writer since blogging. Thank you! Here is my new cover! I'm excited to reveal it. And, I just got word, my release date is
May 1, 2012!
The Sholes
Key by Clarissa Draper
Summary:
I have been studying the marketing plans of many different writers over the last few months, trying to decide what to do. Alex and Talli have both had huge marketing plans with large success. Here are some of the options for marketing out there:All across London, single mothers are vanishing. Margaret Hill, mother of two, walked out of her house two months before, never seen again. A month later, Carrie-Anne Morgans takes her two-year-old son for a walk in the park and disappears leaving him alone in his stroller. Lorna McCauley leaves her London flat in the early hours of the morning to buy medicine for her sick child and disappears.Newly promoted Detective Inspector Theophilus Blackwell is assigned the case of Lorna McCauley, which, on the outside seems to be a simple case of mid-life crisis and child abandonment.Elsewhere in London, MI5 analyst, Sophia Evans, is working undercover to catch an animal rights group responsible for targeted bombings. As her case (and her personal life) fall to pieces, she receives a strange envelope in the mail. It contains a picture of Lorna McCauley’s lifeless face along with a daunting code. Now the police and MI5 are forced to work together to stop the murders, and Sophia must find her way into the terrifying mind of a serial killer.
(a) Amazon Chart Rush - this is where bloggers ask other bloggers to buy their book on the same day in order to have their book placed high on the amazon charts.
(b) Facebook/Twitter/Goodreads Marketing - not exactly sure how this works. I guess it's when you tweet or post about your book on these sites.
(c) Guest Blogging/Blog Tours - authors visit other bloggers to promote their book
I think I have decided what I'm going to do in terms of marketing and I will reveal it next week.

big congrats! The premise sounds very interesting :)
ReplyDeleteps I'll put a pic up of your cover on my blog with the release date.
Congratulations! Great cover and the mystery sounds awesome! Then again, I love mysteries.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! So exciting. Love the blurb and cover!
ReplyDeleteCatherine Denton
I like the name Theophilus! And that is a cool cover, congratulations :-)
ReplyDeleteMy marketing plan included an Amazon Chart Rush type thing (though I never actually asked people to buy my book to get it up the charts. Perhaps that would have made a difference! I just had lots of people post about the release at the same time), a blog tour that is still happening (ending this Saturday), and for the April A to Z Challenge each of my posts will be a flash fiction related to the world of the book I just released.
So, we'll see if all this online "marketing" pays off!
xx Rachel
FANTASTIC! I can't wait to read it, Clarissa - it sounds amazing. Is it on Goodreads yet? I must check!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the mention with marketing. I can't wait to hear what you'll be doing!
That is absolutely the prettiest cover I've seen in a long time. I love the blurb about it.
ReplyDeleteWishing you much luck!
Teresa

ReplyDeleteIt looks awesome!!! Clarissa, congratulations. I'll do a huge shout-out for you around that time.
ReplyDeleteOh, Clarissa ~ How exciting! I am SO happy for you!!! Best of luck with the sales! Love the cover!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Sounds like a good read. I enjoy a good mystery. I'll watch for it.
ReplyDeleteBig congratulations! Love the cover, and the blurb grabbed me. Look forward to reading your mystery novel, and thanks for the helpful links! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Clarissa! I love that one of yours characters is named Carrie. *grins* Great cover!
ReplyDeleteWow! Congrats! This is so exciting! Been waiting for you book for um ... seems like years. Has it been that long? You know I'm in if you need my blog for your tour, or whatever you decide to do!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteAwesome cover, Clarissa! Congratulations!! Must go add you to my Blog Buddy Must-Reads page now!
ReplyDeleteI like that cover. I get a somewhat classic feel from it. And it fits the title.
ReplyDeleteAnd that blurb scared me slightly. I'm sorry. Comes from being a single mom myself and boy is it possible for such a situation to occur. I sense this is going to be an intense read.
HAPPY DANCE, HAPPY DANCE!!
ReplyDeleteOh Clarissa!! Yay for you!! Exciting times ahead for you! Love the summary - so so so intriguing! Theophilus Blackwell is the BEST NAME!! Yay! Take care
x
Awesome news, Clarissa.
ReplyDeleteI love the blurb, I'm intrigued and I love the name Theophilus.
How exciting! I love your cover :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to visit the links, too. I have a lot to learn in a short period of time. I may yell for help.
Congratulations! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great cover.
That's a fantastic cover!! Congrats, Clarissa!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!! Finally a book by one of my blogging buddies that is right in my wheelhouse! Mystery!!! I can't wait!!! :)
ReplyDelete(I think I used my allotment of exclamation points for the week)
The description sounds awesome, Clarissa. I like the cover, too. Congratulations on the release. However you decide to market, save a copy for me!! I will blog/buy, whatever....
ReplyDeleteKnowing how well you think things through Clarissa I know you'll be a marketing whiz. I've had bloggers tell me that for all the work they put into a blog tour there was very little joy. Trying to sell books just to writers (who're facing an influx of titles and probably trying to sell their own title) is probably not the best way to go.
ReplyDeleteAnd an Amazon-savvy blogger friend told me that Amazon is wising up to the chart rush approach too. But I don't really see that they should mind too much with all the books it sells.
So I await with bated breath for what you'll do.
Congrats on finishing your novel and I adore the cover. Clever you.
Denise
I adore that cover Clarissa. It's gorgeous and I can't wait for the release.
ReplyDeleteHi, Clarissa,
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the book. Like you, I've been watching and studying up to see what works and at this point, I haven't done much, but will be taking a mixed approach to what I do for the next release. That said, I'll be watching and learning from what you'll be doing. I have no doubt your book will be successful. Have fun!
Hi Clarissa - sounds fascinating and I absolutely love the cover - looks so appropriate for the 'woven plot' you show us around ..
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and looking forward to following along with you on your marketing path .. cheers Hilary
If you want to do a guest post on my blog I'd be more than happy to have you. My book comes out at the same time (I still have no cover), but my publisher does that last so that's par for the course for them. It's just how they do business.
ReplyDeleteYour blurb sounds very exciting. Although I'm wondering what the cover has to do with missing people. Perhaps that is in the book because I didn't get the connection by reading the text of the blurb.
Congrats, Clarissa! That's a good release day - it will be my 21st anniversary, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat cover--congrats Clarissa! Let me know how I can help, all right?
ReplyDeleteYour marketing links are so timely--I'm trying to figure all this out too!
I found this link today--it might help you as well: http://thewritingbomb.blogspot.com/2012/03/ebook-marketing-gem-recovered-in-email.html
This sounds like a fabulous read, Clarissa! Happy to help out anyway I can if you're doing a blog tour or something!
ReplyDeleteAnd definitely would want to read this book!
Darn it, I thought I'd commented but it seems I didn't. (Must be an age thing...)
ReplyDeleteI read the post, admired that wonderful cover and did a Snoopy Dance for you - but clearly didn't comment. It's a wonderful cover, Clarissa. I can't wait to read it!
So exciting!! And thanks for sharing the marketing plan ideas. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I like the sound of this one, Clarissa! Congrats!
ReplyDeletePromotion and marketing is a bear for some. It's learning to strike a balance between creating irritation and interest. Truthfully, what works for one may not work for another. Making it your own is and with your own style is good.
Oh, I have some open dates in May, just sayin'...

I love the image of the typewriter keys. It's an arresting cover design, Clarissa. Well done.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS!!! I love the cover. And so exciting to have a release date! I hope everything goes really well with all the marketing decisions. Best of luck with everything!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your upcoming posts. That's what I love about the blogging community. Everyone is happy to share what worked for them and what didn't.
