Listening to the voices...
Yes, I agree! Have a great weekend!
Absolutely. The reader notices when you're adding snow.
Good advice. I usually have too many words though.
"The End" sounds so final. ;P
That's exactly the way "only The Lonely" ends. Great minds think alike.
I can only add so much, but the way I write, it's a necessity.
Definitely true. What I do is type 'the end' then tell my CPs, 'its kinda on the short end, so if there's anything you'd love more of, TELL ME!' haha ;)
Wise words, indeed!
Yes, I agree too.No captchas at my place, I agree with you on that score too!
How true!Donna V.
So true, Clarissa! Adding extra 'fluff' just for a bigger number is not going to help in the long run! Then again, I tend to have the opposite problem - too many words.
Clarissa!! Yay!! Congratulations!! Oh wow!! What a great way to start the weekend! Take carex
Well said! So I'll say it again. When it's done, it's done!
And I like the way you made this post straight to the point as well.Readers are smart little buggers. We all know that since we're readers ourselves. They'll sniff out the fluff quicker than a hound tracking a fox.
Congratulations on being done!
It's so wonderful to add those 2 little words: The End. Yay!
Life is so simple when you boil it down to the basics! Love it!! :)
Hi Clarissa .. they say perfection is too OTT .. so The End - seems a good and fitting way to stop .. cheers Hilary
I know what you mean. I think it's better to have lots of words, then subtract, not add. BTW, thank you for your comment over at Crime Watch. Much appreciated. :)
I agree. Have a wonderful weekend :)
LOL! Thanks for the chuckle and good luck with it.
Absolutely right! That said. I often go back and add words. But that's because I really underwrite first drafts. So then I fill it in. And then I go back and cut.
And what beautiful words they are! :)
Sounds like you've find the right ending - awesome! :)
Some stories can be told in less words than others, Clarissa. It's better to stop than to pad to meet a word count.
That's a great ending! No use going on and on and on...
:) loved the ending... and the crisp post!!! :)
wise words, sister!
Excellent advice, Clarissa!
Halleluiagh and I agree! I felt so FINISHED on March 1st - now I'm frippering about doing one page synopsis. eeek.
Me again.I tagged you with the Lucky Seven at my blog.
I thoroughly agree with this. I've read far too many stories with fluff!
Oh, I am SO with you. I just do do fluff. When it's over, it's over.
I don't know, the words "The End" seem so generic. Isn't there a more creative way to end a story?
True dat~ :D
Yup! It's so hard to ignore the word count though.
Absolutely!!! You said it!
I have the opposite problem. Before I know it, I've hit 120,000 words and my story is nowhere close to the end. I have a serious problem with brevity.
It's an odd conundrum. Creative writing dictates you should cut out as much as possible, but when selling books they like length. Finding a compromise is tricky, and something I struggle with myself.
If you don't have anything nice to say, say it anyway.
