The movie I loved first...
Pretty in Pink (1986)--A poor girl must choose between the affections of her doting childhood sweetheart and a rich but sensitive playboy. Stars: Molly Ringwald, Jon Cryer and Harry Dean Stanton
The song I loved first...
It came out while I was in Japan and I insisted we enter a music store and find the single. Back then, it was on cassette tape and I carried my Walkman throughout Tokyo. I found it that day and wore out the tape by the end of the week.
The book I loved first...
My first crush...
My first real crush happened in grade six. I sat across from a boy named Danny. He had blond hair and blue eyes and he was--in my eyes--perfect. I moved shortly after to a different school, but I will never forget Danny. I never told him how I felt. Not sure I regret it though.

The days of tape cassettes. Only thing worse was 8 tracks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in my blogfest!
Except for Danny, who I am sure I would have loved had we met, I also love all of your choices. Every time I see Pretty in Pink come on TV I watch it and it still makes me happy. And Charlotte's Web... fabulous, fabulous book. Loved your post, Clarissa!
ReplyDeleteJust watched pretty in pink the other day. I loved that song, too. Lol
ReplyDeleteI still haven't seen Pretty In Pink!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I loved I Think We're Alone Now - such a great song!
I loved Pretty in Pink. I haven't seen it in AGES!
ReplyDeleteI remember the scene where the Duckman is talking to himself, trying to work up the courage to tell her he loves her.
ReplyDeletePretty and Pink. I loved the name of the characters in that movie; Andi, Blane, Duckie Dale, Steff and Iona. Favorite line - "His name is Blane? Oh! That's a major appliance, that's not a name!"
ReplyDeleteThat Tiffany song is one of the daggiest tracks i've ever heard, but gosh I really do love the 80s :) Molly Ringwald, what a legend! And awwww, Danny!

ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying this blogfest but it's making me feel a little old. I watched Pretty in Pink with my kids!
ReplyDeleteDanny was the perfect first love. He'll always stay just the way you remember him.
(Sorry for the deleted post. Wandering fingers syndrome.)
Aww, Danny... :D
ReplyDeleteBut no no no! Not Tiffany! Clarissa, come to the light!!! :D LOL!
I never saw Pretty in Pink. Can you believe that??? Insanity.
But fun choices. Charlotte's Web is always a yes. <3
I completely forgot about Tiffany "I think we're alone now" !!!
ReplyDeleteI had adored that song so much I used to blast it on my boom box and dance in the front yard and then when i hit middle school a friend and me used the song to a homework project.
Pleased to see Charlotte's Web. Mine was the Wind in the Willows. Still love it. :0)
ReplyDeleteI love "Charlotte's Web." First book to make me cry, too.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there a war between the Tiffanys, or did I dream that? More than 1 Tiffany?
Oh, Danny boy!
ReplyDeleteClariss, I really enjoyed your choices. I think I liked each of those at one point, by turn.
I didn't know you lived in Tokyo ... ?
I think Charlotte's Web may have been the first book I read. Either that or Island of the Blue Dolphins. Those both had a lasting impact on me, and I thought they were both good for different reasons. Shortly after those, I discovered Lloyd Alexander, Narnia, and then Tolkien. The rest is history.
ReplyDeleteI loved Charlotte's Web too. Who knew a little pig could elicit such an emotional response :)
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh that song! I loved that song!!!
ReplyDeleteGosh I don't think I have heard of the film or the song. Such a great idea for a blogfest.
ReplyDeleteWe are good on three out of four...
ReplyDeleteWe all love something...right!

Didn't get the time to participate in the blogfest, but I can post mine here:
ReplyDeleteI the first book/music/movie I loved were the Hardy Boys, Pink Floyd The Wall and Emil from Lønneberget, respectively. You probably jhaven't heard of the movie, but it's based on the books by the genius Swedish author Astrid Lindgren >:)
Cold As Heaven
I LOVED Tiffany's song! I used to play it over and over.... even now it reminds me of junior high school dances.
ReplyDeleteI loved Ducky in Pretty in Pink. The first boy I had a slight crush on was when I was five and his name was Danny, also. He lived next door. Wow, I haven't thought about that in years.
ReplyDeleteOh, my sister and I used to watch Pretty in Pink over and over again. Back in the day, anything with Molly Ringwald was the bomb. Great choices!
ReplyDeleteI still miss having a walkman and cassette tapes.. man. Pretty in Pink is such a great movie too.
ReplyDeleteAndrea
Aww! Charlotte's Web is a great book!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get past Charlotte being a spider to enjoy the book. I really despise spiders. :)
ReplyDeleteI love Charlott'e Web!
ReplyDeletea number of people mentioned that Tiffany girl, I've never heard of her before. Was she a star in US?
ReplyDeleteHope you liked CHARLOTE'S WEB movie
I know the movie by name, but didn't see it. Love the sound of that story. Those two must have been pretty inventive to prevent the pig being turned into pork.
ReplyDeleteIf Charlotte were here, I'd find out if she could spin the word "Incredible" for you. I love your firsts. And boy do I remember Pretty in Pink. Talk about a trip down memory lane. :-)
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Pretty in Pink, although I'm sure I've just about seen everything else Molly Ringwald was in. She was so popular in the 80s. And that song is stuck in my head for the rest of the day! :)
ReplyDeleteCharlotte's Web. I remember reading that in third grade. I loved that story. My son loved the animated movie about it. Don't think I could have gotten him to actually read it, lol! He wanted heroes and swords, armies and wars, superheroes.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Pretty In Pink. I remember when it came out and there were many who loved it. Love your song choice!

ReplyDeleteAh, Charlotte's Web.I'm surprised I haven't heard that more often today. Great book!
ReplyDeleteLove all your loves!
Denise
I loved all of these. I think every teen girl watched 16 Candles. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful post, Clarissa. Really enjoyed your first loves!
ReplyDeleteI wonder where Danny is now...
Clarissa - Oh, what a terrific idea for a post! :-). I'm glad you participated. And I've always loved Charlotte's Web, too...
ReplyDeleteMost of these are well past my firsts. I enjoyed 16 Candles, watching it with my daughters. Not sure I ever saw 'Pretty in Pink'.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Tiffany song.
I've never read Charlotte's Web, although we have it here in the house, one of one of my daughters' books.
My first crush--I remember but don't remember her name.

ReplyDeleteTIFFANY!!!!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!

and pretty in pink is a TOTAL classic!
you had great childhood tastes, miss! :)
I liked sixteen candles a little better but pretty in pink was another great 80's movie. And I remember that song from MTV when it mostly videos (and fun).
ReplyDeleteI love Charlotte's Web. My third grade teacher read it to the class. What a classic!
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late.
ReplyDeletePretty in Pink. Breakfast Club. Sixteen Candles. Some of the greatest movies did come from the eighties.
Great picks.
Thanks for sharing with us.

These ones are totally different, I'd love to check them out - in sec.

fun choices. the first three are some of my favorites, too.
ReplyDeleteI must be a little older than you. The decade I love is the 70s. I don't remember ever seeing Pretty in Pink. I had a crush on a boy when I was in grade school, too. I think he knew I had a crush on him, but he didn't care about me. Oh well, that's how it goes. I seem to remember a song titled 'I think we're alone now', but it was by Tommy James and the Shondells. I loved that song.
ReplyDeleteGood choices! I could probably still sing I Think We're Alone Now all the way through.
