Writer's Guide To Gimp #1 - Installing Gimp

This is the first monthly post in a year-long project of mine to learn Gimp--a GNU Image Manipulation Program. Why am I learning gimp?? Because it's an interesting tool that can help me create book covers, or character locations. And it's fun to learn new things.

Installing Gimp (click image to enlarge)

Step one: Go to www.gimp.org and press the download button...

Step two: Select the option you want to download and press the link...

Step three: Follow the instructions...

Step four: After it installs, the program should look like this...

  1. A simple but effective program. And if it helps you write and create, all the better.

  20. Ooh I love gimp! But I actually use Inkscape more. They're fairly similar but I find that Inkscape is a bit more user friendly. I actually created my website logo (the writing nut) using that program.

  21. I feel really stupid because it looks way too difficult for me to learn. I bought Adobe, a long time ago and finally, after days (not hours), I had to give up. The learning curve was way over my head. It sounds like a useful tool, especially for book covers, but I have accepted that we cannot all excel in all areas and this particular area is my weakest.

  25. I should know this and GIMP has indeed been my friend for the last year or so. I would also recommend "INKSCAPE" which is a open source to create vectors and drawings. ( it's like adobe illustrator only it is free) I should know because I did the cover for my own e-book- Any feedback on this would be great. Also anyone willing to like my page, would get to read this one for FREE- Just email me and i will send you a coupon. This will be valid until Valentine's day. Valentine's day can't be romantic without a romantic read. https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/140051
